Building Bridges to Economic Security Background

The Building Bridges to Economic Security Campaign is a two-year initiative that includes multiple components. WOW, along with a number of other national organizations, explored how best to communicate about issues of economic security and how to translate these messages to policy and practice. The Building Bridges project:

  • Developed an opinion research platform on the issue of economic security in consultation with stakeholders engaged in opinion research, programming and/or organizing.
  • Conducted opinion research in the form of ten focus groups in different regions of the country and a national poll representing a range of individuals, representing different gender, race, age and income levels.
  • Analyzed the poll results and developed a consensus-based messaging framework that will be used to engage a range of entities in building economic security for all.
  • Created materials to be used in organizing and advocacy activities at the local, state and national levels.

WOW released the findings of the opinion research at five regional meetings across the country in September and October 2010. Throughout 2011, WOW will hold a series of webinars which use messaging strategies to advocate for economic security across the generations. To access resources from the regional meetings and webinar series, check out the Building Bridges Toolkit.
