GREEN Initiative
Welcome to WOW's GREEN Space - a source for research, programs, legislative information, newsletters, upcoming events, and best practices related to Generating Real Economic Equity Now for women in the new green economy.
A new green economy will require a new green workforce, and WOW knows this need offers a significant opportunity for women, who, with targeted support, can build economic security through these new green jobs. This site reflects our commitment to this promise, showcases our work in this effort, and offers a clearinghouse of information for the field.
What We're Doing
- In April 2011, with generous support from the Ms. Foundation, WOW will offer a second GREEN Insitute for its partners in the Southeast - new and old - in Birmingham, AL. Visit our Events page for additional information.
- Through a Pathways Out of Poverty grant from the Dept. of Labor, WOW is providing assistance and support to 5 coalitions from across the country to recruit more women into their green job training programs.
- WOW also publishes a biweekly newsletter, which provides timely information on developments in the clean energy field, information about green job training programs, research on the new green economy's promise, and much more.
What We've Done
- In fall 2009, with generous support from the Ms. Foundation, WOW organized a GREEN Institute for ten organizations from across the country all seeking to build job training programs for women interested in green career opportunities. WOW continues to work with and provide technical assistance to these organizations as they develop workshops and continue their outreach.
- In 2010, WOW partnered with the Women's Bureau at the US Dept. of Labor and Public Policy Associates, Inc. to co-author A Woman's Guide to Green Jobs. The Guide is due to be released in early 2011.
