Local Policy and Advocacy Work
Policy Projects
WOW is involved in a number of policy initiatives that support lifelong economic self-sufficiency for women and girls in the DC Metro Area, including:
- Serving as an appointed member of the Workforce Investment Council and active member of various committees
- The Project-Labor Agreement
- DC Chamber of Commerce
- On-going monitoring of Mayor Fenty’s Administration, City Council, and DC agencies
Advocacy Efforts
WOW promotes local advocacy efforts that address workforce development and basic human needs issues from a gender perspective. To accomplish this, we work with community stakeholders and local groups throughout the DC Metro Area. Our participation includes:
- Workforce Development
- Co-convener of the DC Jobs Council
- Appointed member of the Workforce Investment Council
